5919 - ADAMSTOWN RAILWAY STATION GATES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport, and Minister for the Hunter representing the Minister for Roads and Freight, and Vice-President of the Executive Council
  1. Has the Government undertaken any cost and feasibility studies relating to the issue of frequent and lengthy delays at the Adamstown Railway Station gates?
    1. If so, what was the outcome of these studies?
    2. If not, will the Government conduct such a study?
Answer -

I am advised:

In 2013, Roads and Maritime Services conducted a feasibility study into a proposed driver-information scheme to warn motorists freight trains would close Glebe Road, so they could choose an alternative route. However, the study found the scheme would not be feasible, as a large rail siding yard north of the crossing means there is insufficient time to reliably advise motorists the boom gates are closing.

Roads and Maritime is undertaking the Inner Newcastle Traffic Study to investigate options to address congestion issues, which includes the Adamstown Railway Level Crossing and surrounding road network. The study is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
