1008 - ASSAULTS AT HOSPITALS STAFF SUPPORT

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Health and Medical Research

Noting the Minister's response to LA Q74 and Q75, exactly what support is available to assist staff, including nurses and paramedics, when they experience stressful or traumatic situations at work?

Answer -

NSW Health has an extensive support program in place to assist staff including nurses and paramedics when they experience stressful or traumatic situations in their work. This includes a requirement from NSW Health that all health entities implement an Employee Assistance Program that provides an early intervention strategy for staff in order to assist them to identify and resolve professional, personal, health or work related issues.

In 2017, the Government also announced a $48 million investment in paramedic support which included $30 million to enhance health and wellbeing initiatives.
