2987 - SCHOOL TEACHERS WELLBEING

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education representing the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning

Considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on school communities, what steps is the Government taking to ensure the health and wellbeing of teachers?

Answer -

The health and wellbeing of teachers is of the utmost importance to the Government. With the return of full on-campus learning since Monday, 25 May 2020, all activities and operations in New South Wales public schools are being conducted in line with guidelines and advice from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health, as applicable.

The Department of Education continues to work with NSW Health and remains vigilant in implementing its comprehensive infection control protocols in our schools to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID19 within our working and learning environments. Schools are continuing to support vulnerable staff to work remotely in line with AHPPC guidelines.

New South Wales schools are safe, clean and secure places for our teachers. Measures that have been implemented include:

  • Effective hygiene practices,
  • Additional provisions of soap and hygiene supplies,
  • Enhanced cleaning,
  • Appropriate physical distancing between teaching staff and other adults at the school, and
  • Personal protective equipment for use in accordance with infection control procedures.
