1552 - END OF LIFE SERVICES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Health and Medical Research

What efforts is the Government making to mend gaps in services and improve patient outcomes for those nearing end of life?

Answer -

Commencing in the 2019-20 financial year, a four year additional investment of $45 million in palliative care will support employment of one hundred additional palliative care nurses across New South Wales over four years, increase digital technology to improve access to palliative care in regional and rural areas, and provide funding for nominated minor capital works projects to create more home-like environments in New South Wales palliative care facilities.

From the 2017-18 financial year, a four year $100 million investment in palliative care allowed all districts to increase recruiting of additional nursing staff, allied health staff and Aboriginal Health Workers to provide end of life care and support palliative care on-the-job training and scholarships for nurses and allied health staff.
