1319 - GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE TO ALLEVIATE FLOOD MITIGATION PROBLEMS IN WALLSEND CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Energy and Environment

Considering Newcastle City Council has committed $3 million towards the Tyrrell Street Bridge upgrade in efforts to alleviate flood mitigation problems in the Wallsend Central Business District, what resources can the Government provide to assist with the necessary upgrade?

Answer -

The Government offers financial assistance and technical support to Councils that manage flood risk through the Floodplain Management Program. The Government has previously provided funding under this program to address flooding issues at Wallsend. City of Newcastle can apply for further funding assistance when the program opens for applications in early 2020.
