2839 - SUICIDE PREVENTION

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Medical Research, Assistant Minister for Health, Minister for Women, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

What avenues for research, policy development and preventative action is the Government taking outside NSW Health's Suicide Prevention strategy, considering that suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44?

Answer -

Information about the NSW Government's decade-long whole-of-government reform of mental health care can be found at www.health.nsw.gov.au⁄mentalhealth.

This includes a focus on strengthening prevention and early intervention for those at risk of suicide.

The NSW Government also continues to work closely with the Black Dog Institute on the implementation of the Centre for Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention's Suicide Prevention Framework.
