133 - INFRASTRUCTURE AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE HUNTER

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Planning
  1. What is the Minister doing to ensure that future housing growth in the Hunter is supported by the expansion of infrastructure and public transport?
  2. What is being done to improve public transport in areas like Fletcher, in the Wallsend electorate, to cater for the housing growth in this area?
Answer -
  1. The Government is delivering a range of new infrastructure and public transport to support future housing growth in the Hunter. For example, through the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund, the Government has provided $450 million to enhance the Hunter's infrastructure, including transport, education, water and health to drive economic development and boost the region's liveability.
  2. The Government is committed to improving public transport in Newcastle and the Hunter region. Truncating the heavy rail line, creating a full accessible transport interchange at Wickham and introducing light rail will enhance and support urban renewal in Newcastle. For specific information about public transport in Fletcher in the Wallsend electorate, I refer your question to the Minister for Transport.
