8977 - SECONDARY EDUCATION IN THE WALLSEND ELECTORATE

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Education
  1. What is the combined capacity of secondary schools in the Wallsend electorate?
  2. How many students are projected to be enrolled in secondary education in the Wallsend electorate by 2023?
Answer -

I'm advised that:

Every eligible student who wishes to attend a New South Wales government school will be given a place at their local school. Accordingly, the Department of Education does not have fixed enrolment capacities at New South Wales government schools. Schools have the capacity to adapt to fluctuating enrolments through the use of a combination of temporary and permanent teaching spaces.

Secondary schools in the electorate have adequate space to meet projected long-term demand. In addition, an upgrade project at Callaghan College, Jesmond Campus to provide new classrooms and a new hall is currently in the design phase.
