I am advised:
Lake Macquarie City Council is leading the Lake Macquarie Transport
Interchange project and therefore discussions between the NSW Government and
Commonwealth on its funding needs are ongoing.
The project's Stage 1 – Glendale Road Bridge has previously attracted
$7 million from the Commonwealth through Round 2 of the Regional Development
Australia Fund (a stream of Infrastructure Australia's Regional Infrastructure
Fund). The NSW Government has also allocated $15 million to Stage 1 - Glendale
Road Bridge through the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund.
The project has been identified in the Hunter Strategic Infrastructure Plan
(HSIP) due for submission to the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure and
Transport by end of September 2013.
The HSIP provides an overview of the strategic, long term infrastructure
needs for the Lower Hunter region, and a platform for negotiations with the
Commonwealth on the future infrastructure funding priorities. The HSIP
identifies the Stage 1 project as a priority infrastructure project for
consideration by the Commonwealth. However, Lake Macquarie Council
is the owner of the project and onus is with Council to seek further
Commonwealth funding for this initiative.
I am advised by Transport for NSW that the Stage 2 project including
potential train station and related interchange facilities is not yet funded or
planned. Transport for NSW continues to work with Lake Macquarie City
Council to monitor transport patronage and demand for a train station in the
long term.
