6203 - SAFETY ON NEWCASTLE BUSES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport, and Minister for the Hunter
  1. Is the Government taking action to improve the safety of passengers and drivers on Newcastle Buses?
    1. If so, what is being done to improve safety?
    2. If not, why is no action being taken?
Answer -

I am advised:

The Government takes the safety of its customers and staff very seriously. Security for the entire public transport network is now overseen by the NSW Police Force's Police Transport Command. Transport for NSW works closely with the Police Transport Command and transport operators in Newcastle on programs to ensure safety of customers and drivers on services.

Transport for NSW meets with Newcastle Buses regularly to discuss and implement operational matters. Safety is a key standing item on the agenda.
