2507 - MAINTENANCE OF WETLANDS IN NEW SOUTH WALES

  1. How much funding was allocated towards the maintenance of all wetlands in New South Wales in 2015?
  2. How much funding was allocated to each individual wetland in 2015?
Answer -

(1) The NSW Government supports the restoration and maintenance of wetlands through a range of programs and actions. These activities include the annual delivery of  environmental water to iconic wetlands such as the Macquarie Marshes and floodplain wetlands on the Gwydir, lower Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers,worth $4.3 million in the 2014-15 financial year.

The Office of Environment and Heritage also manages important wetlands within national parks including coastal floodplain and estuarine wetlands, and wetlands listed under the Ramsar Convention such as the Central Murray Forests, the Paroo River Wetlands, Narran Lake, the Macquarie Marshes, the Gwydir wetlands, Myall Lakes and Towra Point.

(2) Activities and programs supporting wetland maintenance are not separately budgeted for individual wetlands.
