242 - CHILDREN TRANSFERRED FROM JOHN HUNTER HOSPITAL

In the six months July to December 2010:

  1. How many children presented to the John Hunter Emergency Department?
  2. How many children needing after-hours emergency surgery were transferred from John Hunter Hospital to Sydney for surgery, and then back to the John Hunter Hospital for post-operative care?
  3. Were any adverse outcomes recorded?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. 9,139 children (age less than 16) presented to John Hunter Hospital's Emergency Department between 1 July 2010 and 31 December 2010.
  2. Between July and December 2010 thirteen patients (aged less than 16) were transferred from John Hunter Hospital to Sydney hospitals for ongoing care, one being transferred after hours.
  3. No adverse outcomes were recorded for paediatric patients transferred during this period.
