2173 - FUNDING FOR HUNTER WETLANDS

  1. How much money has the State Government allocated to the Hunter Wetlands at Shortland:
    1. in 2006⁄2007;
    2. in 2007⁄2008?
  2. What projects were these funds allocated for?
Answer -
  1. The NSW Government, through the NSW Environmental Trust, allocated:
    1. $98,598 to the Hunter Wetlands Centre at Shortland in 2006⁄2007.
    2. No applications for further funding were received by the Environmental Trust from the Hunter Wetlands Centre for 2007⁄2008.
  2. The funds were allocated in 2006⁄07 for a three-year project entitled 'Biodiversity Enhancement of Shortland Wetlands Ramsar and Endangered Ecological Communities Site'.
    This project has been identified as a priority in the Ramsar Ecological Character Report and Management Plan 2004-09. The project will ensure the on-going protection of this significant wetlands complex, and the improvement of habitat values for threatened species.
