4326 - MANUFACTURE OF TRAIN CARRIAGES IN SOUTH KOREA

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure

Regarding the Government's decision to have 500 train carriages built in South Korea, will there be benefits for the people of New South Wales and the Hunter?

Answer -

There are many benefits for the people of New South Wales, including the people of the Hunter.

The New Intercity Fleet achieves a significant improvement in the customer experience while achieving value for money for the New South Wales taxpayer.

Intercity customers, including those from the Hunter, will experience unprecedented levels of convenience and comfort. The new fleet will have comfortable two by two seating. Each seat will have tray tables and cup holders, as well has the ability to charge mobile devices via USB or charging facilities.

There will also be dedicated luggage and bicycle racks, extra space for wheelchairs and prams and fully accessible toilets.

Customers will also benefit from increased levels of security with each carriage equipped with modern CCTV technology, help points and digital announcements.

Additional benefits are outlined on the Transport for NSW website.
