372 - TAFE FEES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills, and Minister for Small Business

Does the Government have plans to reduce TAFE fees in view of the increases put in place last year and the impact this has had on students?

(a) If not, why not?

Answer -

Under Smart and Skilled, new fee and eligibility requirements for students enrolled in government subsidised qualifications were introduced from 1 January 2015. All approved training organisations delivering government subsidised training, including TAFE NSW, are required to charge the same fee, which ensures the focus is on course quality.
