836 - ADDITIONAL NURSES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Health, and Minister for Medical Research

Following the 2011 Budget announcement of 107 extra nurses in the Hunter New England Local Health District, how many additional nurses will be employed at the:

    1. John Hunter Hospital;
    2. Calvary Mater Hospital Waratah?
Answer -

The 2011 Budget includes funding for approximately 45 full time equivalent extra nursing staff at the John Hunter Hospital and 28 at the Calvary Mater Newcastle.  These figures may vary slightly as the Government's commitment to increase the number of nurses and midwives is progressively rolled out.

Hunter New England Local Health District will continue to actively recruit nurses and midwives in accordance with the Government's commitment to provide an additional 2,475 nurses over four years.
