The John Hunter Hospital Eye Clinic provides services for patients with a
range of complex conditions including corneal conditions, diabetic eye disease,
significant eye infections, eyelid disorders, lesions and tumours, retinal
disorders, uveitis and glaucoma.
Not all generalist services are provided by the hospital as some procedures
are best provided in the primary setting through an optometrist, management by
a GP, or at a specialised hospital such as the Sydney Eye Hospital. This
approach ensures patients receive the care they need in the most appropriate
setting.
The John Hunter Hospital Eye Clinic is now providing several additional
services since it reopened, including:
-
Laser for the treatment of diabetic eye disease, glaucoma treatment and
posterior capsular opacity (post cataract surgery)
-
Optical Coherence Tomography for diagnoses of retinal conditions
-
B scan ultrasound to diagnose retinal conditions in the presence of dense
cataracts
-
Auto refractor to diagnoses refractive errors, and
-
Lens star to measure axial length prior to cataract surgery.
