*Note: This data has been manually compiled from a number of sources; one of
which is the Local Development Performance Monitor which presents information
provided by councils on local and regional development. The data sources are of
varying reliability and comprehensiveness and cannot be relied upon as
representative. Nonetheless, as the only data available, this provides some
indication of what may be being delivered under the State Environmental
Planning Policy (Affordable Rental Housing) 2009.
The Government continues to investigate initiatives to deliver more
affordable housing. Examples include Communities Plus, a Government program
being delivered by Land and Housing Corporation and the Social and Affordable
Housing Fund which provides an innovative approach to the delivery of social
and affordable housing. Further detail on these could be provided by the
Department of Family and Community Services.
(2) The Government is committed to increasing housing supply and making
housing more affordable.
The New South Wales planning system facilitates affordable housing through
the State Environmental Planning Policy (Affordable Rental Housing) 2009
(ARHSEPP) and State Environmental Planning Policy No. 70-Affordable Housing
(Revised Schemes) (SEPP 70).
These existing policies have delivered affordable rental housing and other
specialist housing types in the Newcastle electorate (see figures above).
These and other housing-related policies are currently being reviewed by the
Department of Planning and Environment to ensure they reflect current needs and
community expectations.
