Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Local Government, and Minister for the North Coast
  1. In view of the increasing number of people switching to cycling, what is the Government doing to support local councils to improve and provide safer cycleways?
  2. Given that Newcastle has the third highest number of cycling-related accidents in the State, what is the Minister doing to support Newcastle City Council in improving safety for cyclists?

I provide the following details in response to your questions:

As Roads and Maritime Services is lead agency for cycling safety, the Member may wish to direct her questions to the Minister for Roads and Ports, the Hon Duncan Gay MLC.

Ultimately, it is a matter for each council to determine how to allocate its resources and expenditure on cycleways and improving safety for cyclists.
