6345 - MEDIAN WAITING TIMES

  1. Why is the median waiting time for New South Wales hospital patients for key procedures considerably longer than the national median waiting time?
  2. What action is being taken to improve waiting times for key procedures such as knee replacement, tonsil removal, cataract removal, ear, nose and throat surgery, and general orthopaedic surgery at the John Hunter, Belmont and Maitland Hospitals?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. and (2) The Australian Institute for Health and Welfare's report into 2012-13 elective surgery waiting times revealed New South Wales was the best performing state for the total combined percentage of surgeries performed on time.
    The Hunter New England Local Health District is implementing a number of strategies to further reduce wait times for patients requiring surgery.
