2170 - STAFFING LEVELS

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Health, and Minister for Medical Research
  1. How will the Government address the concerns of nurses and midwives in regards to the interim Audit Commission Report, specifically in regards to recommendation 22 of that report?
  2. (a) Will the Government remove legally enforceable minimum staffing levels as the recommendation advocates?
    (b) If so, how will the Government ensure that safe and adequate levels of patient care are maintained across the State?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. and (2) The Public Health System Nurses' and Midwives' (State) Award and the staffing arrangements in it are legally enforceable. 
    There are no plans to change these arrangements.
