1095 - VIOLENCE ON TRAIN STATIONS

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport
  1. Has the Newcastle and Hunter Region dominated the list of the state's most violent train stations by rate of incidents per passenger and is Waratah Station the worst station in the Hunter?
  2. Will the Minister ensure that visible, uniformed staff patrol all railway stations each and every day, as well as all trains, to improve community confidence in public transport in the region?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. and (2) BOCSAR recently concluded that the recorded rates of personal offences on the NSW rail system are generally very low. Transit Officers are deployed to the areas and at the times they are most needed based on gathered intelligence. In May 2011, RailCorp increased the presence of Transit Officers in the Central Coast and Hunter areas from 7 on night shift on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to 24 patrolling trains and stations 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
