4808 - HUNTER ABORIGINAL CHILDREN'S SERVICE

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Family and Community Services, and Minister for Women
  1. Where do referrals to the Hunter Aboriginal Children's Service (HACS) go now that the Department of Community Services has suspended referrals to HACS due to the chief executive officer being charged with criminal offences?
  2. What service has stepped in to help children previously helped by the Hunter Aboriginal Children's Service?
Answer -

Since the Hunter Aboriginal Children's Service (HACS) took the decision to cease operation, alternative Out Of Home Care providers have been identified by Community Services.

This Government is committed to the implementation of Justice Woods' recommendations relating to non-government Out Of Home Care (OOHC), and Aboriginal children are placed with Aboriginal OOHC providers wherever possible.
