The Government made an election commitment to increase authorised strength
by 310 officers to build on its track record to target crime and keep the
community safe. The increased police numbers will go towards strengthening
specialist police capability as well as specialist civilian staff. Allocation
of police officer positions is determined by the Commissioner and based on a
number of factors, including crime rates.
Probationary constables are deployed in May, August and December each year
to replace and add to existing police numbers.
Response times are reported annually in the NSW Police Force Annual Report
and Budget Papers.
