4124 - HOUSING NSW WATER SAVING INITIATIVES

  1. What initiatives have been implemented in the Wallsend electorate to encourage Housing NSW tenants to save water?
  2. How successful have these initiatives been?
Answer -
  1. In 2005 Housing NSW introduced water usage charges for Housing NSW tenants. Over the past year Housing NSW has installed water saving devices in 1,733 Housing NSW homes within the Wallsend electorate.
  2. Total water savings from the installation of water saving devices in the Wallsend electorate are estimated at 36.4 million litres annually - equivalent to 36 Olympic size swimming pools. Housing NSW tenants have reduced their water usage by an average of 9% over the past year saving a total of 2.5 billion litres of water annually.
