Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW):
The Hunter region has benefited from the overall increase of over $13
million in the FRNSW 2016-17 budget. The Government has delivered new FRNSW
stations at Salamander Bay and Rutherford, with major renovations completed at
Tea Gardens, Merriwa and Cardiff. New stations have also been funded for
Maryland and Murrurundi and Abermain.
In May 2016, construction was completed at Lambton on the new Metropolitan
North emergency services hub. The complex now includes Area and Zone offices,
trucks and crews from three existing fire stations, and a major incident
control centre for bush fires, storms and other major incidents.
Work on Wingham Fire Station is complete and the Newcastle Communications
Centre has received major renovations worth almost $3.5 million. New
firefighting trucks have also gone to Salamander Bay, Minmi, Morisset,
Cessnock, Scone, Muswellbrook and Lambton, with a CAFS pumper at Cardiff.
NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS):
The NSW RFS budget has also increased by almost $11 million in 2016-17.
Recent NSW RFS investment in the Hunter Region has included, the provision
of new Fire Control Centres, Brigade Station improvements, and provision of new
fire appliances and support vehicles. NSW RFS Districts comprising the greater
Hunter Region have seen investment of over $2.5 million in Brigade Stations and
Fire Control Centres, and over $3 million for Brigade Tankers and Appliances in
2016-17.
