1024 - SAFETY OF WARATAH STATION COMMUTERS

Hornery, Sonia to the Attorney General, and Minister for Justice representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Minister for the Hunter, and Vice-President of the Executive Council

What measures is the Government taking to protect Waratah residents commuting on trains now that it's been revealed it has the highest incidence in the State of personal crime at a train station?

Answer -

The NSW Police Force's Commuter Crime Unit provides high visibility policing across the entire public transport network. It provides an intelligence based response to crime hot spots on the network, including railway stations.

There are more than 8,600 CCTV cameras and 700 Emergency Help Points throughout the CityRail network. A security control centre actively monitors this technology at all times. Uniformed and plain clothes police officers and RailCorp transit officers work together to address crime and anti-social behaviour across our transport network.
