  1. What is the Government doing to improve waiting times at John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department?
  2. Why does John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department have fewer staff than some Sydney Hospital Emergency Departments, which treat fewer people?
  3. What percentage of patients presenting to John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department in the past 12 months are not being treated within the Federal Government's four hour benchmark?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. to (3) The John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department is appropriately and fully staffed, noting that staffing is dependent on demographics, number of patients and the services the Hospital provides. The Emergency Department's patients are triaged before registering with clerical staff. The 'fast track area' where minor injuries are treated is being reviewed and an Early Treatment Zone is being developed where suitable patients can be treated in the waiting room.
    John Hunter Hospital has also enrolled in the "Whole of Hospital" program being introduced across the whole State. The program is aimed at improving access to care, but particularly focused on achieving improved patient flow.
