I am advised:
- to (3) The John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department is appropriately and
fully staffed, noting that staffing is dependent on demographics, number of
patients and the services the Hospital provides. The Emergency Department's
patients are triaged before registering with clerical staff. The 'fast track
area' where minor injuries are treated is being reviewed and an Early Treatment
Zone is being developed where suitable patients can be treated in the waiting
room.
John Hunter Hospital has also enrolled in the "Whole of
Hospital" program being introduced across the whole State. The program is
aimed at improving access to care, but particularly focused on achieving
improved patient flow. Publically available information on emergency
department attendances and performance is available at the Bureau of Health
Information website at: www.bhi.nsw.gov.au.
