4541 - MULTICULTURALISM IN THE HUNTER

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Family and Community Services, and Minister for Social Housing representing the Minister for Ageing, Minister for Disability Services, and Minister for Multiculturalism

What initiatives are you pursuing in the Hunter region to promote harmony between members of different religions and cultural backgrounds and to celebrate diversity?

Answer -

My remit as Minister for Multiculturalism is to build and maintain a cohesive and harmonious society that enriches the lives of all the people of New South Wales.

The NSW Government, through Multicultural NSW, delivers this through its Harmony in Action Strategic Plan 2014 – 17, the objectives and functions articulated in the Multicultural NSW Act 2000, and the various programs and services the agency delivers.

The overall theme is the need to work collaboratively across all tiers of government and with non-government agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for community cohesion and harmony.

Further, through the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Advisory Council (RAC), the NSW Government is promoting harmony between diverse religious and cultural communities in the Hunter region.
