3042 - HOSPITAL BED WAITING TIMES

In relation to the current research in the Emergency Medical Australasia Journal which claims that one in twenty NSW patients is delayed more than an hour with paramedics in emergency rooms before they are admitted:

  1. Will action be taken to tackle this issue?

I am advised:

  1. and (2) Improvements in delays for patients attending emergency departments by ambulance requires whole of hospital strategies. With the implementation of the National Emergency Access Target, hospitals in NSW are using and developing a range of strategies to improve the flow of patients through the system thereby making more beds available. Initiatives include the early review and planned transfer of hospital patients to home or other levels of care, greater use of "hospital in the home", community packages of care and other support services.
