2327 - FUNDING FOR ONCOLOGY SERVICES IN THE HUNTER

  1. What is the Government doing to address the inadequate resources for oncology services in the Hunter?
  2. When will the promised funds be provided to the Hunter's oncology services?
Answer -

I am advised:

  1. and (2) The Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) is preparing a Cancer Services Strategic Plan on how to position the District to meet the challenges of the future. The Plan will focus on addressing the projected increase in demand for cancer services across the whole HNELHD.
    The Plan will incorporate the service model for the North West Regional Cancer Centre currently under construction, and $1 million has been allocated in the 2012-13 State Budget to support the establishment of radiotherapy services at the new facility. 
    Completion of the North West Regional Cancer Centre is on schedule and $23.6 million has been allocated in the current budget for completion of this project, the total cost of which is $40.7 million.
