429 - HOMELESSNESS IN THE HUNTER REGION

  1. How many people are currently recorded as homeless in the Hunter region?
  2. What steps is the Government taking to find accommodation for homeless persons in the Hunter?
  3. What steps is the Government taking to prevent homelessness?
Answer -
  1. In the 2006 Census there were 1981 people recorded as homeless in the Hunter Region.
  2. Homeless people are able to access a range of services to assist in finding accommodation through Housing NSW, the Community Housing Sector and Specialist Homelessness Services.
  3. The Hunter Regional Homelessness Action Plan is available on the Housing NSW website. The Plan provides details of homelessness initiatives in the area.
