8705 - YOUTH STRATEGY FOR NEW SOUTH WALES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Multiculturalism, and Minister for Disability Services

Considering that most developed countries have a youth strategy in place, does the Department of Family and Community Services have any strategies to specifically address ongoing youth issues?

Answer -

On 26 July 2016, the Government officially launched the first-ever legislated and Cabinet endorsed whole-of-government Strategic Plan for Children and Young People. The Advocate for Children and Young People consulted with over 4,000 children and young people aged 0 to 24 years to inform the themes and directions of the Plan which will ensure children and young people in New South Wales have opportunities to thrive, be heard and access the services they need.

The Department of Family and Community Services' Youth Frontiers and Refugee Youth Peer Mento ring programs foster active and meaningful participation of youth in their communities, and support refugee young people in NSW to be engaged citizens. The Youth Opportunities program also provides grants to support local, youth-led and youth-driven projects that have a positive development focus.
