2426 - POLICE RESOURCES FOR NEWCASTLE

Hornery, Sonia to the Attorney General, and Minister for Justice representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Minister for the Hunter, and Vice-President of the Executive Council

Noting the spike in crime in Newcastle, in particular youth crime, including serious property damage, graffiti, break-ins and assaults, is the Minister planning to provide more police resources for this problem which is threatening the safety and security of local residents?

Answer -

This Government is determined to provide police with the numbers and resources they need to keep the community safe and has committed to delivering a record 16,356 officers by June 2014. 

New Probationary Constables are deployed in May, August and December each year to replace and add to existing police numbers. Final Probationary Constable allocations will be announced on the date of the next attestation.
