2806 - INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING FOR THE HUNTER

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, and Minister Assisting the Premier on Infrastructure NSW, Leader of the House

Noting the Regional Development Australia Hunter chief executive has stated that "The Hunter risks missing out on a slice of more than $5 billion in infrastructure funding if councils and planning authorities do not put aside territorial differences and take a 'big picture' approach" ( Newcastle Herald 5 September 2012), what steps is the Government taking to ensure that planning authorities work with local and Federal governments to ensure that the Hunter receives its fair share of the $5 billion worth of infrastructure funding?

Answer -

The NSW Government has formed a project control group to oversee infrastructure planning work in the region. This group has the following agency representation:

    • Hunter Development Corporation
    • Department of Planning and Infrastructure
    • Transport for NSW
    • RDA Hunter
    • Department of Premier and Cabinet
    • Infrastructure NSW
    • Infrastructure Australia⁄Department of Industry and Transport
    • Hunter Councils

With representation from a range of key agencies across three tiers of government, the work of this group will ensure NSW is in the best possible position to secure infrastructure funding. This work is on track to be complete within the timeframe set by the Commonwealth, that is, by the end of June 2013.
