  1. What is the police to population ratio in the Newcastle Local Area Command?
  2. How does this compare with the NSW ratio and the police to population ratio in other Australian states?
  3. Will the Minister employ more police in the Hunter Region considering its rates of crime are above the state average in 12 out of 17 categories, according to the most recent figures from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics?

In terms of the allocation of police resources across these areas, a range of factors are considered to determine police strength, such as crime figures, categories of crime, population and demographics, and these are reviewed as changes occur to ensure policing meets demand.

The Government is committed to providing the NSW Police Force with the resources it needs to keep the community safe. Since May 2011, 138 new Probationary Constables have been allocated to Local Area Commands in the Hunter region.
