1482 - HUNTER MEDICAL ONCOLOGY SERVICES

What steps are being taken by the Minister to ensure that the Hunter is receiving the same level of services, and funding for medical oncology services as metropolitan Sydney, in order to achieve performance benchmarks?

Answer -

I am advised:

A Review of Medical Oncology Services was recently undertaken in the Hunter New England Local Health District to examine service provision and make recommendations.

The Hunter New England Local Health District has accepted 21 of the 24 recommendations of the Review and is developing an implementation plan to ensure the recommendations are addressed.

The recommendations will feed into the new Cancer Services Strategic Plan that is currently being developed.  The Plan will prioritise service requirements for the next five years and will form the basis for funding allocations over that time.
