3630 - NEWCASTLE DISABLED ACCESS BUSES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Transport

In view of the decision to cut the Newcastle rail line at Wickham:

  1. What is the Government doing to provide additional disabled access buses for the Newcastle CBD?
  2. How many disabled access buses are currently in use by Newcastle Buses?
Answer -

I am advised:

(1) and (2) State Transit conforms to the requirements of New South Wales and Commonwealth disability legislation.
In 2012-13, the Government is funding the purchase of 37 new buses for Newcastle Buses, to replace aged buses.
All new route buses purchased by bus operators are required to be air-conditioned and have a low floor, stepless entry to allow easy access by the elderly, disabled and passengers in wheelchairs.
