801 - CHICHESTER PIPELINE—LEAD POISONING

  1. Are farmers along the Chichester pipeline concerned about the pipeline shedding lead and the potential lead poisoning of livestock?
  2. Has the Government ordered Hunter Water to test the areas along the pipeline from Chichester to residential Shortland, following the death of a calf from lead poisoning?
Answer -

I am advised as follows:

  1. Some farmers and their livestock have been affected by the contamination legacy caused by the shedding of the lead collars used to seal the joints along the Chichester pipeline.
  2. Hunter Water Corporation has been undertaking testing in its management of the contamination issue.
