2511 - YOUTH HOMELESSNESS

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Family and Community Services, and Minister for Social Housing

In light of Mission Australia's report finding 1 in 7 of Australia's youth are at risk of homelessness:

  1. What measures are being considered to reduce youth homelessness?
  2. What is the current spending allocation directed towards prevention and early intervention strategies for youth at risk of homelessness?
Answer -

(1) In 2015–16, the NSW Government is investing $55 million in 52 youth-specific homelessness services.

Through the Premier's Priorities, the Government will increase the proportion of young people who successfully move from Specialist Homelessness Services to long-term accommodation by 10%.

(2) All homelessness service providers are contracted to deliver a range of service responses, including prevention and early intervention.
