1276 - TAFE FEES

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills, and Minister for Small Business
  1. Will the Minister drop fees for TAFE courses that train people to work in disability and community services?
    1. If so, when will the fees drop, by how much, and which courses will be affected?
Answer -

Smart and Skilled student fee policies apply for all subsidised training under Smart and Skilled. Student fees are determined by the individual students' characteristics.

Thousands of people are able to train to work in disability and community services for free. Eligible Aboriginal students and students with a disability will pay no fee to access these qualifications, or any other qualification on the NSW Skills List. Under the Government's fee-free scholarship program, each year for four years up to 50,000 eligible disadvantaged young people aged 15-30 will pay no fee to access Certificate I-IV qualifications on the NSW Skills List.

On 11 September 2015 I announced that the Government will invest $10 million into 2,170 additional subsidised training places in Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications to support the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in 2016. This will create more opportunities for people to train to work in disability and community services.
