753 - USE OF "COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE"

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Education

How is "commercial in confidence" being used to thwart transparency in the allocation of public funds within NSW universities?

Answer -

Commercial in confidence provisions enable universities to diversify their revenue streams and compete on a level playing field with other business and educational entities.

NSW universities are financially accountable to the State through the NSW Public Finance and Audit Act 1983 where all aspects of university financial accounts are open to scrutiny.
