6081 - OPAL CARD USE IN THE HUNTER REGION

  1. When will commuters no longer be able to purchase paper tickets for public transport in the Hunter Region?
  2. How will commuters be made aware that paper tickets will no longer be available and that they must pre-purchase an Opal card?
  3. Where will Opal cards be available to purchase in the Hunter Region?
Answer -

I am advised:

(1) - (2) More than 20 paper ticket types, including single and return MyTrain, MyBus TravelTen and Pensioner Excursion Tickets, remain available across the network.

(3) Adult and Child/Youth Opal cards can be ordered at www.opal.com.au or by calling 13 67 25 (13 OPAL). Unregistered Adult and Child/Youth Opal cards are also available from more than 1,000 retail stores including select Woolworths supermarkets, newsagents, petrol stations and local corner stores. Opal retail stores can be found at www.retailers.opal.com.au. As the Opal card rollout continues, the number of Opal retailers continues to grow.
