Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for Resources and Energy, Special Minister of State, and Minister for the Central Coast
  1. Over the next 5 years:
    1. will gas bills double;
    2. will electricity prices continue to increase above CPI increases?
  2. If not, how much will gas and electricity prices rise over the next five years?
Answer -
  1. and (2) The AEMC has published its report, Future Possible Retail Electricity Price Movements: 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2013, and is available on the AEMC website at www.aemc.gov.au This report includes predictions on the future price of electricity in NSW.
    Price rises from 1 July 2012 are largely expected to be as a result of Federal Labor's Carbon Tax and the Renewable Energy Target, both of which NSW Labor have publically expressed its support.
