  1. How many public housing properties in the Wallsend electorate are designated for Over 55's?
  2. How many tenants in the properties designated for Over 55's are under the age of 55?
  3. Are existing tenants consulted or advised if the 'Designated for Over 55's' criteria is amended to allow younger tenants to reside in these properties?
Answer -

Properties that are subject to the State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing for seniors or people living with a disability) 2004 are for:

  • Clients over 55 years of age;
  • Clients who receive a disability support pension (regardless of age);
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients who are 45 years of age or over;
  • A client whose partner (married or de facto) is aged over 55 years or receives a disability support pension.

FACS builds and refurbishes homes so tenants with a disability or older people are able to live safely and comfortably. Social housing applicants are matched to accommodation suitable to their needs.
