Hornery, Sonia to the Attorney General, and Minister for Justice representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Minister for the Hunter, and Vice-President of the Executive Council
  1. Does the NSW Police Force have specific zoning areas, and therefore limitations on the distance travelled for a Local Area Command (LAC) to respond?
  2. Do the Newcastle City LAC and the Lake Macquarie LAC have specific distances of coverage?
Answer -

The NSW Police Force has advised me:

  1. All Local Area Commands (LACs) have set boundaries. However, police do respond to calls for assistance from outside these boundaries when and if required.
  2. The Newcastle City LAC covers 173 square kilometres. The Lake Macquarie LAC covers 648.1 square kilometres.
