582 - JOHN HUNTER HOSPITAL—ADDITIONAL BEDS

  1. When will bed numbers be increased at the John Hunter Hospital?
  2. How many additional beds will be provided?
  3. How many additional clinical staff will be employed to accommodate the extra beds?
Answer -
  1. to (3) The Government's Better Hospitals & Healthcare Plan includes a $3 billion investment into health capital, opening 1,390 beds and providing 2,475 extra nurses, including 275 additional Clinical Nurse/Midwife Educators and Clinical Nurse Midwife Specialists over the term of this Parliament.
    I am advised that during 2010⁄11, 16 beds were opened at the John Hunter Hospital and as at July 2011, NSW Health had recruited almost 600 extra nurses and midwives into the system since the election.
    As announced in the State Budget, a record $17.3 billion has been allocated to health to return quality health services to the people of New South Wales.
