1498 - WORKPLACE PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURIES

  1. What are the main issues that are causing stress and psychological injury to teachers in New South Wales schools?
  2. What is the procedure for managing workplace psychological injuries?
  3. Is there workplace training and workshops provided in schools for the mental health of teachers and professional staff in New South Wales schools?
  4. Are there strategies in development for improving the psychological safety of workplaces?
    1. Is so, what is the nature of these strategies?
Answer -
  1. There is a range of causes related to psychological injuries in the workplace.
  2. All workplace injuries are managed in accordance with the Department's Return to Work Program. This program is endorsed by SafeWork NSW.
    The Department's Employee Assistance Program also provides a broad range of services to support the health and wellbeing of its employees including trauma response to schools and free confidential counselling for employees.
  3. There is a range of professional development resources and opportunities for teachers and staff in NSW schools, relating to staff wellbeing.
  4. The Department has a corporate safety strategy focussed on injury prevention and effective early intervention, support and rehabilitation for staff.
