1092 - CRIME IN THE WALLSEND ELECTORATE

Hornery, Sonia to the Deputy Premier, Minister for Justice and Police, Minister for the Arts, and Minister for Racing

What action is the Government taking to address instances of crime in the Wallsend electorate?

Answer -

The Wallsend electorate is covered by the Newcastle City Local Area Command and the Lake Macquarie Local Area Command. Both Commands deal with crime in Wallsend and the surrounding suburbs.

As at 1 May 2015 the authorised strength and operational capacity of the Newcastle City LAC was 245 and 96 percent, and the authorised strength and operational capacity of the Lake Macquarie LAC was 187 and 98 percent. Both Commands are above the Government's operational capacity target of 90 percent. Since 2011 the Newcastle City LAC received a total of 36 probationary constables and the Lake Macquarie LAC received a total of 39 probationary constables.

The NSW Police Force is committed to a visible police presence in Wallsend by having police actively out in the community, conducting high visibility police patrols. These patrols are regularly tasked to areas in the Wallsend electorate and can be supplemented by special region based squads and taskforces
