113 - FLOOD MITIGATION WORKS

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for the Environment, and Minister for Heritage

What financial support will be provided to Newcastle City Council and Lake Macquarie City Council for flood mitigation works?

Answer -

I am advised as follows:

The NSW Government's Floodplain Management Program will continue to provide financial support to local councils for floodplain risk management planning and risk mitigation projects.

Applications have been received from Newcastle City Council and Lake Macquarie City Council by the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) for funding in 2011-12 under this program. OEH has convened an assessment panel to review, prioritise and make recommendations for consideration by Government. Indicative advice on projects with potential to be funded will be provided to councils for the implementation of projects as soon as possible.

Projects to be funded in 2011-12 will be confirmed in September 2011, when the NSW Government has finalised its annual budget.
